The space

Welcome to Old Stavanger – also known as Straen – the largest surviving wooden house settlement in Northern Europe. This charming studio apartment is located in a 170-year-old log house on a peaceful cobblestone street along the west side of the harbor, right where cruise ships dock during the summer months.

The apartment offers a fantastic view of the harbor, though large cruise ships may occasionally block the view during the day. They typically depart by 18:00, restoring the full panorama for evening enjoyment.

Please note: the house is not fully soundproof, and you may hear neighbors on the first floor. Quiet hours are observed between 23:00 and 06:00 to ensure a restful stay for all guests.
With Stavanger city center just steps away, you’ll have museums, restaurants, and the waterfront at your doorstep.

Guest access

The two apartments in the house share the front door, and then you will access the upstairs apartment through your own entrance. Note: you will be able to lock your apartment when you come and go.

Additional notes

The old houses in Gamle Stavanger aren't well sound insulated. You'll hear the neighbours on the 1st floor and also from neighbouring houses. This means it's important to do as the locals do; keep the noise down from eleven at night, til six in the morning. Also, in the weekends, there can be some noise (music and traffic, coming from the bars & restaurants area, in the city centre, across the harbour).

Neighborhood overview

The wooden houses and cobblestone streets are only part of the local attractions. We are located a 5 min. walk from the main shopping and restaurant area in Stavanger sentrum. Just around the corner you can visit the Canning Museum, the Nautical Museum, the Workers Cottage and the new modern concert house. You can also enjoy a number of good restaurants including the local Fish Market restaurant with their harbour-side outdoor seating when the sun is out!

Getting around

We are located a 10 min. walk from the main bus and train terminal and a 15 min. walk from the ferry terminal. There is pay-as-you-go parking available across the street.
